2002 sport
hi, i read a few threads on the subject but couldn't find exactly what i was looking for.. it's kind of a dumb question but any help is really appreciated.

on my 2002 sport i have the options of 2wd/ 4wd high/ and 4wd low, i know what their functions are but i'm wondering when 4wd high should be used? i.e if it's snowing alot can i use 4wd high or will it cause excessive wear?

and also, is my choice of '2wd' the same as the '4wd auto' i've read about or is it always in 2wd?

thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum! Your 2wd is different than the 4x4Auto you've been reading about. 4x4Auto senses wheel slip in the front and adjusts its distribution of power accordingly. 2wd on our trucks is just straight up 2wd.

There are a few occasions to use 4x4Hi such as driving in heavy snow or rain, but at low speeds. 4x4 doesn't increase your stopping ability and so its just as dangerous to go fast in 4x4Hi as it is in 2wd in poor conditions. I also have used it to help get my boat and jetskis out of the water when the ramp is particularly steep or slippery.

4x4Lo is usually reserved for getting out of stuck positions or steep climbs up loose terrain.
