When might we start hearing about the 2014 Explorer?

2014 explorer order form

Hello all,
New member here - have been watching and reading for a while.
Have been waiting to find out the differences coming on the 2014 model to decide on 2013 or 2014 purchase.
Just met with my local Ford dealer and we reviewed the order form for 2014.
Riley on post #28 pretty much nailed it...
1) Two new colors (Sunset and Dark Side), deleted 2 colors (Ginger Ale Metallic and Green Gem Metallic). No idea what Dark Side is. Guessing Sunset is orange.
2) Auto headlamps now standard on all series
3) 2nd row heated seats now standard on Limited (bench or buckets). Does not appear that you can get these as an option on the other trims.
4) Adaptive cruise control and collison warning with brake support moved out of 302A package and into a free standing option. Pricing wasn't available yet, but he estimated it could be as much as a $1000 option?

I also asked how much they would charge to add seat heaters to rear buckets on a 2013 and was quoted $300 per seat (about half parts, half labor).

Lastly, pricing wasn't available yet, so not clear how much the price will increase from 2013 model.

Based on all of this, and the current rebates (up to $2500), I am now certain that I will go for a 2013 limited.

Might be worth it to wait and see what "Dark side" looks like, maybe a Matte Black. Also anyone know if Ford will be offering a $2000 incentive like their are for the 2013? Not sure if I should pull the trigger on the 2013 sport in tuxedo black or wait for the 2014 to come out around June. That dark side color has me interested though.

Me too- has anybody actually done this yet? MN checking in with a 2013 Limited. Hopefully, it will be pretty straightforward.

Im in Dearborn at Ford PDC for a Ford event next week and I will ask the Engineers about this.

Adding 2nd row heat would require MFT to be updated right? And how are you going to force 2014 MFT onto 2013? Just like the heated steering wheel option isn't available for 2011/2012 MFT

You may be right but my understanding is the switches to control the 2nd row heated seats are going to be in those blank knockouts in the back face of the front console.

When I asked if that was the switch location all I got were smiles and silence.

The Taurus has rear seat heat now with MFT.....anyone know if its integrated?

Confirmed.....2nd row heated seats are NOT integrated into MFT. Stand alone system with buttons on the rear of centre console.

Had a conversation with electrical engineer on Explorer. while the rear seat heat is not integrated in my ford touch it is something that requires a new software flash to the PCM. The 2014 software is different so its not something that can be just added to the 2013 PCM at this time.

The heat pads would have to be installed into the 2nd row captains chairs and that requires seat removal.

Power is controlled with a timer and switch thats part of the 2014 centre console. Yes, you can buy the part (new console switch pack with rear HVAC controls) shortly but then it is powered by a power supply that can handle electric heat pad amp draw.

Impossible no, complicated yes.

Im going to pass on it for now.

If my memory serves me correctly, I believe the 2014 orders started March 25th. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm mistaken.

From my old days at the Ford Truck forums and my 3 Excursions many did install seat heaters in those that didn't come with them and in some cases replaced the earlier seat pads with aftermarket when the originals broke ...

Ill have to call my dealer on Monday since I have not herd back from them, I did try to order a 2013 Sport a couple weeks ago but I was told none were available due to the early release of the 2014 sport. So far I have managed to save a $1000 for being a Costco member, X-plan saved me $3600. Not sure what the incentives if any may be for 2014, anyone have an idea.? Any other ideas you guys have regarding saving some money I mighty have missed out on.?

Oh by the way does $3600 sound right for x-plan?

I am not familiar with x-plan but I am sure that other members may be able to comment on that.

I have not heard anything about an 'early release' for the 2014 Sport. The Ford production table I saw did not differentiate between models. It just showed the 2014 production date as June 3rd.

I put in my deposit to order the 2014 Sport; which is basically getting in line. I'm stationed overseas and going thru military sales. They (sales office) stated they usually get an early announcement before general public for when we can order and have it start being built; but they don't have the info yet. They are guessing mid-May for final build/order specs, but we'll see. I'll let you all know when I hear something.
