I recently replaced the thermostat, and now I've got the cycling temperature. Before I put it in, I put it in a pot of water with a thermometer and watched to see when it would open. It opened at 195 like it should, but, on cool down, it also closed right around 190/195 as well. Every other thermostat I've ever tested would close much colder than it's rated temperature. How is it supposed to be?

Tip : Ditch the thermostat ;) That's what we do down here, and since it hardly ever freezes, it's no big deal.

If it is designed to open at 195 that means it would stay closed until approx 195. So therefore it should close at approx 195.

I had the same cycling temp problem and so have several other here after replacing t-stat. I fixed the problem by ordering a jet 160 degree t-stat from www.performanceproducts.com. It was around 20 bucks with shipping but well worth it I think.

Temp gauge stays right around the N now.

EEK i just got a new thermostat, ours is like stuck open, so now you people crammed another worry about installing it, does the lil thinger work right or not. Its a MOTORAD THERMOSTAT (MOTORAD OF AMERICA), is it crap lol?

If you think it is your tstat, don't even bother testing it or anything else, just go buy a new one for less than $10 and spend less than 10 minutes installing it.
