To be honest- if it makes a rattle noise you can usually get away with changing the front and rear tensioners, I have done a few with higher mileage than yours and it has sorted the noise out, after that I can advise to save and have it done as soon as you hear the noise start again- its usual for it to happen again and shows up as a rattle on start up and up to 2500 revs from the front- the rear one is only heard well from below the car near the cats- and rattles on idle. The front one for the ones I did was a part of the 00m12 kit inc inlet gaskits that get brittle over time and mess the mixture by making it lean, an oil restricter bit of plastic to hold the oil in the top of the engine when the engine is not running. The rear one is simply the tensioner-its hard to get too and needs winding real good as its tight! The jobs front and rear are reeally a diy job if you are good with the spanner! Rest easy if your dont rattle- its low mileage and been cared for. Mine has 85K now and runs like a dream- I have done the front and rear tensioners at around 73K.

Chain tensioners

Mine has just turned 83,000, and while we don't have any rattles, I would like to get it sorted if this is general advice. Prevention being better than cure etc.
Has anybody any idea how much this would cost including parts for both tensioners at a garage as I have a limited amount of spare time, tools and experience, so would not like to tackle it myself?
