well i change mine at 3...hers is an 03 XLT that we got from carmax so idk about a warranty..

3k is wasting oil when on synthetic. MINIMUM of 5k. Several members here have done oil quality testing and gone in excess of 20k (with filter changes at shorter intervals) before the oil has gone out of spec.

yea, but when should i change her oil and filter like 71k?- i would do just filter... but what the heyy

5K minimum for synthetic oil and filter otherwise your wasting money, buts its your money.. :)

I would wait 7K myself then change oil the and filter too.

Also i just checked out CarMax and was looking at a 2004 ford explorer for the fun of it and i thought this statement about CarMax's No-Haggle Price was funny.

"What is the CarMax No-Haggle Price? At CarMax, you'll never have to negotiate to get a great price on a new or used car; the price you see is the price you pay. No hassles, no haggling."

But i don't want to pay that price... then what... :)

My OCI is 25k miles using Amsoil oil and bypass filter.

alright, so then she is gettin close to her oil change in the next 1k-2k or so...that would be about 7-8k

I use conventional oil and change it every 3k or 3 months.

With full synthetic you can go quite a bit longer. In Europe synthetic is almost all you get and they go 15k on the stuff. Yes, 15,000 miles. I'm not saying you should but you can definitely get more time out of synthetic oil.

I use synthetic 5w30, but change it every 6000km, under normal driving.

Summertime I change it every 4000 or so, because I'm pulling the boat and other things more.

The only way to know when to change oil is via a UOA.

Aldive should i change my old girl to Synthetic Oil?

93 EX over 216,000 KM

I run full synthetic oil in everything from lawn mowers to boats to trucks.

Ok will it cause a leakage after so much usage of conventional oil in my rig.

If your truck is not leaking oil currently, using synthetic oil will not cause it to leak.

Hmm well she leaks a little in some areas, but minor as in none on ground.

So would this be OK?

As i recall changing from conventional to synthetic after these many years can cause a more of a leakage.

thats because conv. oil will plug holes because of the crude in it...synthetic will clean out thta clogged hole.. good- but bad... i however switched my 5.0 mounty to full synth at 123,000 miles and not a leak..

Well then i won't chance it then and i will still my Valvoline 10-30 or 5-30.

UUUUUUhhhh, no. The very first generation of synthetic oils had that problem, because they lacked the proper additives. Every synthetic oil produced in the last 15 years has had the correct additives in it so this is no longer an issue. It simply doesn't happen.

Ummm, how about 15,000. You bought & paid for oil that is good for 15,000 miles (or one year) so why not follow the mfg. recomendation?
Mob. 1 oil, Mob. 1 filter. Good to go. If you used a cheaper filter you may want to change the filter now and get the Mob. 1 filter. But other than that why change???
