When, Where?

I have a buddy that is going to check out posible trails in the Red River area for me. He owns a Jeep rental buissnes. He should email me back with in a day or so. He will be looking at some of the older trails for the modified rigs but from what he told me there a lot of trails for the stock runners and 2x4's. He said if you are photographer now is a great time to get up there. I'll post back when I get more deatails. I wish Jack Lobdell was still with us, I'm sure he could have helped us out alot on this. He was more aware of trails in New Mexico than I am.

The Texas Explorer contingent might want to check out the March 2000 issue of Four Wheeler magazine. On page 122 they have an article about the Rosita ORV area located in the Lake Meredith National Recreation Area. It is located about 20 miles north of Amarillo. Sounds like a place worth looking into.

According to some guys from the Texas A&M off-road club that I met at Padre, there are at least a couple of places around Texas to go wheeling. I have to get in contact with them to get some details and right names, but a place in the hill country called Devils ??? sounds like a good place for an Explorer run. An area called Spring Creek north of Houston was also recommended. There is also a Tx4x4 run planned for February 22 to Matagorda Beach, which is not to far south of Houston.

Unfortunately, my Explorer is out of commission for a while as a result of the trip to Padre. A guy flipped his 99 TJ into the surf when we were running down the beach Friday night, and my clutch started slipping after pulling him over and out. I attempted to make the full 60-mile run Saturday morning, but decided to save what little I had left and limped back home. Naturally, the clutch is just out of warranty. At least I kept the tires out of the air.

Easy there, Big Tex! I’m not a total slacker. Dead Link Removed We exchanged e-mail addresses before we split so I could get in touch with them and get all the info. Half the reason I froze my ass off down there was to find a central place in Texas to go. Oklahoma might be great, but it’s a hell of a drive from the gulf coast. I was in a hurry and did not want to post something that might be incorrect, hence the vague name and lack of directions. The important thing is that there are some places to go, now all we have to do is get to them. Dead Link Removed

There is quite a bit of info on the Tx4x4 page if you just can't wait for me. The club is net based, free of charge, and pretty damn cool. Just about any 4x4 is welcome, from totally tricked out to bone stock. Check out the links below for the club and an OHV park near Alto.
