Hey guys I was wondering if you could help me. My wife's co-worker just got into a serious accident, and totaled her ex. It was split into. Well it is a 02+ model and I was wondering if anybody could give me the spec's is to where are all of the air bag sensors are located at? None of the air bags deploted. She is now wanting to contact ford and find out why. Well before she does anything stupid I wanted to find all the sensors. That way I can tell her if she is wasting her time or not. Thanks guys for all the help

do you think he meant split into two...

cause he did say a really serious accident.... i have seen airbag deploy with small accidents and no damage...

Yeah sorry about that it split in half. The rear bumper is twisted into the cargo area. I have not yet seen any pictures of the front. The truck is sitting in alabama so its not like I can just cruise right over and look at it. I did not know if there was any side impact sensors or if the where just in the front and rear. But like is said I would like now if anybody could help, and THANKS a billion

I don't think the airbags are deployed for a side or rear impact. Side curtain airbags would, however, but not all models have them.

have been in accidents and been t boned and air ags been deployed..

i believe they are almost like a mercury switch,,, although that is a guess,,,

I dunno I had a 98 chevy blazer 2 door that got wrapped around a tree goin about 40 miles an hour and my air bags never went off. It was weird because the front airbag sensor actually got smashed in the impact.

i doubt a mercury switch, because even rough roads would set it off...

Ok I found out that it is an 03 xlt 4 door, if that helps. And most of the impact was done on the driver side right where the doors meet

If it was a "serious" accident, and she survived, the bags probably didn't "need" to deploy.

Yes I know but she was sitting in the passenger set and her boyfriend was driving home and he is still in the hospital. Also her 2 year daughter was in the car as well and was just released from th hospital around 5 today. I'll put it to you this way, the driver side of the ex is about in the middle of where the seat needed to be, the roof is crushed down about a foot and the ass end is sitting in the cargo area. So yes it deserves the qoutes of saying it is a "serious" accident. Sorry for the language that just kind ticked me off

same here..lol my dad toatled out our 95 2 door by t-boning a expy at 40MPH and they never went off. it was a direct hit to the front. also..weird

My friend has an '01 lincoln with the side air bags. The drivers one went off while driving down the highway. He didn't hit anything to make it go off, but he almost wrecked he car when it did. They fought with ford for 5 months before they fixed it (new leather and all).

On the '03 XLT, side airbags were not available. Driver and passenger airbags were standard, while the head airbag was optional.

There is a good chance that NO airbag should have deployed in that vehicle during a side impact. If the vehicle had nothing but standard driver and passenger airbags, they shouldn't have gone off in that situation.

Robb: Do you know what years they were available? My 01 had XLT has them. I assumed all the newer ones than mine did.

Thats what I figured. I just wanted to make sure. Like I said I didnt want her to go and do anything stupid.

All I know is that when they changed the body style on the 4-doors in '02, side airbags were not available for, at least, the '02s and '03s, and I am unsure from then on. Side airbags were available on the later 2nd Gens, like your '01.
