It's not actually a motor. It's a vacuum actuated solenoid and they are rebuildable. You might be able to get the part from Fast Parts Network . Check with Torrie@fastpartsnetwork.com to see if he has what you need

maybe he is referring to the slide unit in the axle?

I kind of like that disconnect feature, because you have true 2wd and it saves wear and tear on the axle and xfer case.
