In the last 7 years I haven't had a need to
use the keyless entry (due to my after market
alarm system), but I have a need now.
Unfortunately, I never got the code, or I
lost some piece of paper that had it written.
Is there a way to determine the code? Some say it is written on a sticker on the "computer" in the back stowage area where the jack is located, but my god is that a tight location to try to read anything. LOL ... please help or the wife has to walk home uphill in the
rain with luggage.

That's where it is. I used a mirror and flashlight to see it.

My Ford dealer (Bowditch Ford Hampton VA) has always been great. I wrote them this morning and in about an hour I got the following: "On the 97 Ford Explorer the keyless entry code is located in two positions on the vehicle. You can look under the dash behind the steering
column and it is located there on a plate. In the back of the vehicle on the drivers side you have an compartment where the jack is located. If you look
further back there is a black box there and the code is on the inside of the box which requires a mirror to see it." In my case I got it off the box in the jack compartment. I used a very bright light (LOL...it was my enty light from my Sig) and pulled on the plastic side wall. I couldn't use a mirror as well as the light and pull the wall. My box was gray and not black. It had a white sticker with other stuff like bar code, but the entry code was at the top right of the sticker. The 5 digits were the largest font on the sticker. The numbers were in the correct orientation for reading, i.e., not upside down. I tried the code and success.
