Where could I buy a 5R55E shift kit?

yes, im reading through this as we speak. i apprecaite your helpfullness. i looked at the entire valve body and was going to ask you about it, instead of getting just solenoids, buy the new valve body (which includes solenoids) and swap it in?

You could do that if you want, but I don't think they have anything as far as Sonnax, Transgo or Superior parts. They might ask for your old one as a core, but you would have to contact them about that.

do you think it would be a good start as to fixing my problem? (or solve it completely) im trying to do this quickly as i can and save money by doing it myself.

You could buy one of them if you need it in a hurry. If you want to learn how to rebuild one yourself, you could rebuild the one you have, but it will take time since you will have to disassemble it, and order parts.

ok it has the "like new one" that has been tested (with a 5 year warr?), then they have the "new in ford box" for alittle more. which would you buy?
in addition, im buying a inch-lb wrench, haynes manual, and manual on the 5r55e itself. ill also be reading over the VB replacement thread again. any additional info or tools ill need?
also, is there a thread on here about removing and replacing valve bodies? im sure i can do it no problem but i just like to have some reassuring info

will i need to order gaskets? and can i reuse my o-ring? it is fairly new

You might need bonded separator plates if they don't come with them. The Ford VB is new while the other one is remanufactured. Find out if you have to send them your old one or pay a core charge. The 5R55E VB rebuild diary should help you start.

it says that it includes separater plates. im going to email tonight to ask about the core charge (if any). it wouldnt hurt to adjust my bands while the pan is dropped either? thanks for your help

edit: i realized that after i posted. the band adjusters are on the drivers side correct? i meant might as well do it while im down there dropping the pan

ordered complete valve body this afternoon for 79 shipped to my door. no core charge either. do i need new gaskets or O-ring? thanks

The 5R55E is not really upgradeable by the individual but a shift correction kit and a new Ford bonded gasket separator plate plus there relief blow off kit are your best starting point unless you want to buy a trans pressure guage kit to nail things down a bit tighter. The EPC valve is known to give grief because of foreign debris in the oil. Any codes come up with a proper scanner for P1 codes? Generic codes readers won't read any of these specific proprietary codes. Follow the 5R55E VB Diary closely and you will save your self money/time/grief! Remember to use only Mercon V or it's Synthetic equivalent fluid. I recommend new D-o-rings for reverse/low servo and an o-ringed end plug kit for VB. Your best friend is going to be a trans pressure test kit as it has the metric adapters for hose in kit. Buy a quality click type 1/4" drive In.Ib torque wrench as VB bolts have to be torqued in stages and is very critical for a good end result. Don't reuse any gaskets.

thanks! the VB should be here tomorrow. looks like i have to make a run to autozone also

I recommend new D-o-rings for reverse/low servo.

autozone doesnt carry these.

transmissionpartsusa has a "reverse servo D-ring kit" for $3 and a "reverse servo gasket" for $1

^^^^^^^
are those what you are talking about?

Remember that the low fwd/reverse band is controlled by this servo, so be careful to examine the piston extension shaft for defects (break down of material at rod end to band). Question the material that the D-o-ring is made of. Anything less than Nitrial or Viton is useless due to the trans operating temp zone. Remember to orientate the servo cover and torque to spec's.

recieved the VB today. includes everything except D-ring for servo. so im goin to order the kit from tranmsissionpartsusa and ill be good to go. i got 9q of mercon V. thats more than enough right?

the old valve body is out now. the rebuilt valve body didnt include a gasket on top of the plate, but it had one between the plate and the VB. it also didnt include a servo gasket. so ill be ordering those.
does anybody have a link to the VB bolts as to where they all go? i forgot to note or mark which different length ones go where. thanks
