A few months ago I purchased a 2000 Explorer XLT. The problem I am having with it is a squeaking/popping noise in the right front. I have had the vehicle in the shop 4 times with no luck in fixing the problem. They have replaced the rear springs (?) and other front-end parts (ball joints or tie rods) not sure, and the noise remains. The next step is to take it to the body shop and remove the right fender and drill holes to “relieve stress in right A frame area”. Has anyone has similar problems and does anyone know what the fix was?? Thanks For any help. rscott@wingfootct.com

Hi Exp2k, and welcome to the site.
Can you tell us alittle more about your squeaking problem, like does it happen at certian times or only when you are stopping or starting. Does it come and go at any certian time. Information like this can really help us figure out what might be wrong as we're not there to hear it ourselves.

Ray, I hear it at slower speeds over somewhat rough terrain (gravel & speed bumps). It is always there when rolling, but best heard with less road and wind noise. It has stumped the mechanics at two Ford dealers. I’m concerned that they will keep working on it and not fixing it until the warranty expires. I can’t reproduce the noise by bouncing on the front while parked or by lifting the right tire off the ground and moving the tire and wheel.

Thanks for any Help!

Sounds to me like movement in the suspension bushings. I've had minor pops and squeeks in my truck since it was new. They happen at really slow speeds when the front wheels hit an aggressive up or downhill slope. Its just the suspension articulating and shouldn't be much to worry about. However, if the noise is a whining, grinding, or otherwise worse than a simple pop, then it could be something bad. Seems to me that if Ford has tried to relieve the problem and is chasing ghosts, then it probably isn't a problem.

Just my 2 cents.
