Where is the VSS sensor located on a 94 Ranger?

I changed the rearend with one from a 86 and it has no abs. How can I get a vss on my truck for cruise control and overhead console temp ? I understand that vss and abs are the same. Is there a spot on the trany, 2 wheel drive 5 speed? is there after market sensor I can install? Thanks

vss will be mounted on the tail shaft of the trans, where you would find the speedo cable.

abs sensors are NOT the same sensor, abs sensors are on each wheel (except for the RABS system, which only uses 1, and its mounted on the rear axle, near the driveshaft).

I have been going crazy because I cannot find the vss wire. I looked at the wires in the dash but dont see anything gray with black stripe. The connector at the fire wall is numbered and the 3 wire is supposed to be vss+ it is white with blue stripe? I tried to look in engine compartment but no luck. If I chase wires from trany should be the right ones? why is wires different color in my truck? any help would be great

its not uncommon for wires to change colors as they pass thru connectors in the harness. not every does change color, in fact most do not, but its not uncommon.

this is THE ford CD based manual. it will have all correct wire colors on all sides of the connectors, as well as all the placement info for sensors, and anything else you can think of

Thank you I will have to have brother-in law download it. We can't get cable here. I think we are to small of a town. I wonder why some people had post saying that the abs sensor was the speed sensor also. I almost gave up. I will trace it down when it gets a little bit lighter out, warmer also. It will give me a chance to get newer front pegs on my motorcycle. I am almost ready to give in on the cruise, will see what today brings? I seen someone put after market cruise on for only 90. after Christmas sales start soon, maybe I will get lucky? Thanks again.

I found it and the temp changes on the overhead console

Ranger VSS

MichiganBear, do you know where I can tap into the VSS for aftermarket cruise on a 2007 Ford Ranger? Also, where can I get a tach wire? Thanks for any help.

I read on here that all you need is the steering wheel with the buttons and then have to get the computer programed. I found mine in the engine compartment after tracing the wire from the transmisson. Good luck.
