2005 Explorer 4D 4x4
120,000 miles
The gear shift lever didn't break but got stuck in park. I finally forced it loose but the gear lever pointer wasn't lined up right...example, it pointed to Drive but was actually in Neutral...it pointed to 1st but was actually in drive, etc.
A guy at a transmission shop reached underneath and tightened the 'cable' and got it to where it works again and points to the proper gear. It took him 5 minutes and he didn't charge me but when shifting the lever still doesn't feel right...you know, like there's something broken or just not right.
MY QUESTION: Where should I take the Explorer to have this fixed permanently? A regular auto repair? A transmission shop?
I don't want it to break again. My wife drives it to work everyday across the bridge to Louisville and I don't want her to get stranded with two miles of traffic lined up behind her, or worse!
Thanks!
