Where should I mount this?

That would be pretty slick

Installed it today, and was fond to find out it wasn't getting the correct signal. I'll need to order the special sensor and then I'll be set. Took an hour to get the dash apart, drill my holes in the cluster plrexi-glass, and get everything mounted.

pics, man, pics

It's out right now. When I get the sender I'll reinstall it and get some pics.

Got my new sender today, turns out I had my speedometer wire connected to the pink wire on the sender instead of the gray/black. After fixing that the speedometer worked perfectly. I guess I used a little too much pressure on the plexiglass, since it split in half. Still got the gauge mounted and all calibrated. Not too bad for an hour's work.

that doesn't look to bad. Defintely looks better with the lights off (sounds like some women I know). That's different. How much did you pay for it and where did you get it?

I got it off eBay for $80. In Summit it costs $140 so I got a pretty good deal.

you should have made your own bracket to mount the gauge. When you pull off the front of the dashboard moulding that cover the gauges the mount could have been attached and removed later without a trace. it would have also given you the option to mount it wherever you wanted.

oh well, you seem happy...

I don't get what you're saying. I'd like a better mounting location but I was rushed to finish it yesterday.

the front of your dashboard just pulls off. you can see the gap where it attaches about 1/2 inch in from the dash. the whole piece around the heater vents, radio, climate contol panel, etc. i am assuming that you already had that part off the dash.

once you remove that part you can use some sheet metal or light weight steel to fabricate your own bracket. i can't tell you how to shape the bracket because mounting location will dictate that. anyway, bend the bracket appropriatly and mount to the inner part of the dash but have the bracket shaped in a way that you can reinstall the front of the dash.

that being stated you can mount the speedo anywhere

best part about it is that when you remove the speedo and bracket know one will ever know it was there, no screw holes or anything...

looks really good, but what are the 21 bars around the speed? a tac?,......and what is the 1 for? 1st gear?,.... can you get a pic of it at some speed? safely!!!

Tomorrow I'll probably work on a better location. Right now it's super glued on there, one mounting screw on each side has a flat nut that's glued to the cluster. I really wanted to put this in place of my speedometer, but don't know what I'd do about the odometer.

The bars are to sort of measure the speed. I believe every 5 mph or 10 mph a bar lights up. I'll get it when moving tomorrow. If it's nice out I may try and get a 1/4 mile and 0-60 time..

I spent a couple hours today remounting this. I took the cluster out, unscrewed the speedometer from its faceplate, connected the speedometer and shoved it down the dash (so odometer would still count), drilled 2 holes in the speedometer plate and mounted my new gauge in it, reconnected everything, and here is what I ended up with. There are no visible wires and the new gauge sits pretty far back. I'm a lot happier with it this way and there's no way it'll be coming loose now.
