My 4x4 lights flashed a few times (6 flashes every 2-3 minutes) for about 5 miles then stopped. And then I found out the hard way this weekend when it snowed that my 4 wheel drive is not working.

Can any of the code scanners/readers you borrow from the auto parts store tell the problem or do I have to take it to the dealer?

Will it still spit out the code even if the 4x4 is no longer blinking?

What are people having to pay to have it read at the dealer?

Autozone won't be able to scan it. You need someplace with an NGS or WDS tester to communicate with the GEM. Wherever you go, they'll likely charge an hour's labor to do it. Call around to some independent shops... They'll likely have better hourly rates.

The only place I know for sure they can scan it is the dealership.
