Ok, I want to put a switch on my amp to shut it off. I love loud music but at 7 in the morning, I am to tired for all that noise. I want to put a switch on my power line, to the amp. Where could a find a switch big enough to handle 4 gauge wire? Would radioshack, bustbuy, Walmart, or Ciruit City have one?

Don't even try to switch the power wire, just switch the turn on power that way you can use pretty much any old switch. You could also just turn it down lol.

Like Ammo said, the 'sense' wire that actually tells the amp to come on is much easier to switch.. a 5-dollar Autozone switch is all you need in that case.

"sense" wire...its call the remote turn-on lead

Would this be the thin wire from the headunit which goes to the amp?

True but then you got to go through the options on the headunit. This way, it is just a flick of a switch.

Do you not have a remote for the amp? Thats the little knob to turn the amp up/down... That would be the EASIEST thing to do. The amp should have an input that looks like a phone jack and you could just get an amp remote and plug that in and run up to your headunit area...

normally the wire is blue or blue/white and labeled "remote"

All of the wires coming out of the HU are "thin".

yep, this is what i just did in mine, i wired the switch to the amp turn on lead. i mainly did this cause my son doesnt like all the bass in his ear and also cause i live in a not so good neigborhood and dont want my stuff ripped off. so i turn it off just before i get off the highway and then drive home with music turned down.

the switch i used is a illuminated rocker switch i got from walmart for 2 bucks. works pretty good. i have it hidden in the center compartment up in the corner so u cant see it, if you actually look in the compartment u cant see it either you have to feel for it

Ok, the wire from the headunit does to the power in on the switch (normally Red) and the wire to the amp comes out of the positive on the switch (normally white)?

Oh, I see. I was wondering what that was for but my amp didn't actually label it "remote". I didn't realize that is what it is for.

the way i wired my swithc up is the amp turn on lead from the radio to the in side of the switch, i then have a ground to the middle of the switch (optional on certain switches, depends if it lights up or not), i then have the positive side going to the amp like you said.

when the switch is on it illuminates red and when its off its off
