Can anyone help me find a new air bag plug thingy under the passenger seat of a 99 explorer sport. It intermittently makes the airbag light flash when the seat is moved. Thanks J^2

I think you're going to have to go to a junk yard and cut and solder a replacement in. Either that or you can just bypass the plug and solder the wires together assuming you dont have any future plans to remove the seat.

hmm in case you wanted to sell, id just goto the junk yard, it would probably be like 5 bucks then you'd be able to remove the seat and all that (if ever needed? lol)

I am sorry I was not clear. I am looking for the yellow thing ( the resistor ?) that it plugs into. That would fix it right?

I guess a pic would do us some good.

Its a blizzard out so I can not get any for a few days. But it is the pc that the airbag wires plug into when there is not side airbags in the vehicle. I have read that you can clean the plug off and plug it back in and it will quit. I did this once and it was fine for a week but it will not work anymore. Thanks for the reply I really appreciate it. Did you check the wires going into the yellow connector, somebody kicked mine and broke the wire, I fixed it myself but it was a bit of a pain. just soldering the wires together might be a bad idea, the key word mentioned by somebody was "resistor", a mechanic told me that if the light is on your air bag won't work, mind you he worked for a dealership.

Yeah thats what I am worried about the bags not working if needed. I know that it is a resistor and I cannot solder the wires together. I have had my interior out a few times so I was hoping this would not be that bad to fix. I am starting to think I need to remove the seat and trace the wires to check for breaks. I may even remove the resistor and tuck all of it under the carpet. Thanks for the reply. Does anyone Know what value a new resistor would need to have if I were to remove the plug and solder in a resistor and heat shrink over it? Thanks in advance for your help. J^2

i dont recommend soldering any airbag wires air bags are deployed by the measure of resistance too much solder can change the resistance and can wreak havoc on your airbag system

It merely senses whether or not the seat belt is clicked. Its either a closed or open circuit. Solder wont cause that much resistance for the system to interpret it as open.

I'm kind of confused about this whole thing because you shouldnt be able to see any resistor between the seat and the body. ANd if there is a resistor, someone spliced it in and it doesnt belong there.

Really what we need are some pics because I have gutted my 98 Explorer (which includes all wiring) and didn't see a resistor in the wiring near the seats.

You can tell by the words on the bag that the resistor is inside the yellow connector, not sure if you can buy one from a parts store but I got one from the dealer, they're pretty cheap, but in the mean time I fixed the old one so now I have a spare.

Thanks guys that is exactly what I was looking for. Now I have the # and I can at least find one somewhere. You have just made my day. J^2
