Bone-stock 2000 Explorer XLT. Would like to make it offroad worthy but I'm on a limited budget. What should I start with? I'm guessing some beefier tires. Thanks in advance.

It depends all on your budget. But some tires, body lift, add-a-leaf and shackles will get you on your way in the right direction. Also you can perform a torsion twist which will give you some height.

Big thing is how off-road worthy do you want it while still being able to drive on the streets? If you just want to occasionally go offroad 31's will do fine. If you want more and don't care about gas mileage go for 33's

For 31's if you have 3.73 gears buy some new tires, do a TT, and shackles and you should be fine.

If you want 33's i'd suggest buying all the parts and then once you have everything install it all at the same time. I'd say - 3" body lift, shackles, tt, rims (if you don't have atleast 15x8s) and then 4.10 gears.
