Which Engine Do I Have?

I'm trying to order some parts and I always forget.

Does anyone have a picture of the X engine and E engine so I can see which one I have. I think it's the SOHC version.

Do you have a big plastic cover on the engine that says something to the effect of "SOHC 4.0L"?

That's the biggest clue. Ignore the Volant intake in the pic below because it's an aftermarket piece, but it does connect to the throttle body under the cover I speak of.

When you open the hood does it say SOHC on the top of the motor? If not then you have the OHV...

My engine is a 4.0 OHV (pushrod), completely stock. The OHV doesn't have the large plastic cover that is shown in the picture above.

Also, as you mentioned, the SOHC is VIN E, the OHV is VIN X. The eighth digit of the VIN is the engine code.

haha yeah i know but evrey day or so it just gets mudier and mudier.
 






Looks like I have the SOHC engine. Now is the the E code or the X code?

SOHC is Vin code E. Should be the eighth digit in the VIN number.
