Which fuel octaine for a V8?

In the winter with my V8 I used to run 89 and I would notice a difference on days when it was 10 degrees out. But during the normal temps regular was fine. On my maxima however Nissan reccomends premium, I was being cheap and just putting plus in, I shoved premium in yesterday and it makes all the difference.

of course you would notice a difference with your maxima. your downgrading fuel instead of upgrading lol...

* also kinda shocked to hear a maxima factory tuned for 93 ! ?. would have never guessed, maybe 89 atmost. - oh well i learned something lol

The other consideration is Ethanol during winter. Seems the fuel goes to hell when that starts up.

what happened to the X ?

it needed a transmission, 2 wheel bearings, and i think new sway bars. Plus I needed to change the 5 coil packs i never changed soon and a couple other small things. I figured I needed to put about $4k total to get everything fixed to my standards and running smooth combine with my 500 mile a week driving trading it in just made sense at the time. Maxima ended up costing an extra $6750 with tax and fees after trade so it just made more sense. But Ill be honest I regret big time not just spending the money to get my x fixed. I miss that thing more and more every day

All major brand gases contain more than enough detergents to keep fuel systems clean, premium will not have any more than regular. They go through all of those thoughts in the link I posted above...

Save the $$, Premium isn't helping you or your truck any more than Regular unleaded. They just give it a heart-wrenching name for people that love their cars to get them to run it.

You're right, I agree about Premium. It's good to be wiser, some things need to change.

Hey, id buy "Sliced Dolphin infused 100 MAX LEAD!!" if i could... Again, if your car says it wants higher grade fuel, use it. other wise stick to 87, or get a tune like i did and run 93... good stuff.

My '04 will ping a little with 87 octane in warmer weather. Not really loud, but with the windows up and tunes turned off, it's definitely there... I always get name brand gas from the same high-volume station. 89 octane seems to stop the ping, but the truck hasn't been driven consistently enough to tell if MPG's got better.

Anybody know how much knock will cause the knock sensors to retard the timing? I've been trying to figure out how to decipher this info from my Scanguage II, but haven't figured it out yet.
