'99 XLT
Hi peeps new here. I looked for a thread like this and found nothing.

My question is what are the better shocks and struts for a 99 Xlt? Its stock meaning no mods to it. I work my explorer. I drive where Im not suppossed to in this city of mine. Im about to take it to the shop for 80,000 mile tune up. I want the better shocks without having to mod anything. Please name a few and a rank to them or review.

Also who can I trust when I take my X for service? Dealer? Tire shops? Pep boys, or the specialty shops. ex. muffler, transmission shops.

thanks

The most popular seem to be Rancho 9000, Edelbrock and Monroe Sensatrac. I've got the Sensatracs and they're pretty good, but I'm probably gonna switch to Rancho or Edelbrocks because of what I've heard.

for a daily driven truck monroe reflex are wonderfil

you have shocks not strutts, for what it is worth.

and what do we think of the Bilstein's? I was planing on putting them on my Explorer

I just put on some Reflex's...........very happy with the ride so far.

I put Bilsteins on my 01 Sport. They're nice, and helped the ride and handling a lot, both on and off road. On the down side, they can be a little bit jarring over rough pavement, but I've driven on quite a few logging trails with washboard sections and these shocks keep it on the trail.

IMHO, I own a shop and have alot of luck with KYB. They make a MUCH better product than Monroe. While I do not run KYB on my Explorer, If the road was my home, thats what I would run!
