Hi there,
I have just bought an 1997 UK Explorer but am unsure of of the exact model, can anyone help?

It is a 4.0l OHC auto. It is dark blue with silver below the bump strips on the doors, It has Full leather seats, roof console with temp and compass. Air con, cruise control and electric seats...............any ideas?
Is there an easy way to tell which modle it is? VIN Plate maybe???????

Welcome.

Our models do not fully equal the USA ones. When Ford first imported them they only had cloth seats, were 4 door, SOHC engine 5r55e gearbox and 4 wheel drive. There was no choice in models only leather seats was an option. In 1999 they introduced the XLT and North Face (round spot lights and plastic bumpers). But we all have the same drive train with 3.73LS diffs. The early 5r55e gearboxes had a VSS in the tail section to drive the speedometer but this was changed in 1998 to use the abs sensor on the rear diff.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Howard,
It was all getting a little confusing.

So I guess mine has just had a few optional extras fitted. I am new to explorers but already hooked!!
