Hey guys its me again with another question. I just got 2 of the Rock Fos HX2 DVC subs and I'm using them in a sealed box. I'm considering purchasing the box pictured below. This is a ported box right? What will be the advantages using the box below as opposed to the sealed box I'm using right now (the sealed box is about the same size). Any help is always appreciated.

No Way! dont buy that box. it's not even a sub box. it's one of those cheap prefab full range van/truck boxes.

HX2 subs will sound better in a ported box, but that box is not what you want. you might be able to port the box you have. what size is it? what size are your subs?

I'm not sure of the dimensions of my box, but i is a prebuilt box but it seems to be of better quality than the one pictured. I'm going to take a picture of my box today and post it for you. My subs are 12" inch subs. I'm just trying to get the best sound out of them. Are there any decent pre-fab ported boxes or should I go custom? I have no clue what a good custom box would look like or where to get it.

What's wrong with the box you have now?

actually... walmart has some pretty decent quality pre fabbed boxes

are you kidding

A sealed is not better than a ported and a ported is not better than a sealed box.
Each box has its pros and cons in there design.
There are a few thing to consider when choosing a box design. Parameters of the sub, kind of music customer listens to, amount of power being put into the sub and room available and a few more that I take into consideration before recommending a box for a customer.
HX2 DVC 12" have the following box designs recommendation from Rockford. 1.25ft sealed or 2.0ft ported with a 4" port 10.75"long

yes, there are a lot of good prefab boxes out there. but i'm just saying that you dont want the one pictured.

the manufacturer says 2cuft for ported, but you could always go larger (to a point). if you want it to hit really hard, get a slightly larger ported box.

this box will sound great, one of my friends used two Orion HCCA subs in it. it is a a dual slot vented box, and it is braced very well. there is no picture of the dual 12" box, but here is a pic of the single 15" slot vented box:

Yeh they do list bigger boxes. I am at home and do not no he max butt I thinkit is about 2.75 cubic ft. The only problem with going to big is that the suspension on the sub might not be able to control the speaker.

Nothing is wrong with it per se. I'm just trying to get the most out of my speakers/system and I've heard several suggestions about getting a ported boz for these subs and I was just tryiing to weigh the pros and cons.

leenjen-a while back you said that you had a single audiobahn 12 in a 2.85 cf box. is that the same box that is on thsi web site:

if so how did you point it, up or backwards?

i actually made mine, but it was a similar design. if i knew about speakerhole.com at the time, i would've bought it. the boxes are made very well, and it would've saved me some time. i've bought a couple boxes from them in the past.

that slot vented box sounds best when facing the rear.

tunings is all in the vent so if you make your box bigger it wont do as much as making the vent bigger right?

basically a larger enclosure will provide a deeper bass response. if the enclosure is very small, the bass will be tight and not hit as hard as a larger box. the tuning of the port (or vent) is all relative to the size of the box. for example a 2 cubic foot enclosure tuned to 34Hz will need a 4" diameter port that is 11.7" long. if you make the port about 16" long it will be tuned to 30Hz.

if you make the port wider: 8" diameter and 11.7" long, the tuning frequency is now 62HZ. the problem with this setup, is that you will get terrible responce and almost no deep bass. the sound quality will be very poor.
so dont just use any size port, make sure you know what tuning frequency you are at.
