Whining noise when hot

Is a loud whining noise common when a explorer is running hot?
My explorer is really loud when it is hot out. It sounds like it is coming from the engine, and only happens when the temp guage is past the half way point on the guage. Can anyone clue me in to what is happening here.

Try cleaning your IAC (do a search). Mine makes a loud howling noise in warm weather, esp. with a/c on. I usually clean it about once a month or so in the summer. This is common on the 4 liter engines.

Also forgot to mention i have the S&B air intake. That probably needs cleaning too.

Check that out....that's what the IAC howl is like.

Make sure you rule out normal conditions, like fans kicking on and a/c compressor noises. With the a/c and/or defrost on, the compressor will kick on and make its own noises which can be common as it's just doing its job.

Thats a great video EBinterceptor. That is what is sounds like. Its really noticable under acceleration.

That's actually not my vehicle nor my video. I took it from another thread about IAC's. I think it was dogfriend who originally posted it (based on the name in the link). The title of the thread is something like "IAC goes whoooo" I could look it up later if someone is really interested.
