My 92 XLT with a 5 speed mazda Trany whines real bad. It makes my engine sound like a honda... :((
It whines more at higher RPM's, thus leading to the trany conclusion...
I've just put redline's ATF in it, but I notice no changes.
I also checked my rear differential's fluid level. I'm pretty sure it's my trany but does anyone else have an idea to what it could be? Or how to fix this? I almost want to make my exhaust real loud to cover it up, but this I'm sure won't make me real happy.

Secondly, from what I've read from other posts, flowmaster seems to be the way to go for nice sounds. But what about glasspacks and cheapy turbos? Anyone have experiences with those? Thanks..

My 97 had a loud whine too. It was the power steering pump.

don't know about your whine, but exhaust wise i've been extremely pleased with my flowmasters and i wouldn't trade them for glasspacks or any turbo muffler....it's the worth the money my friend.

Is the whine the same in all gears? Does it go away or get louder when you come off the gas and coast?

I would try to solve the problem before getting an exhaust to cover up the problem.

Whelp, I've talked to some transmission shops and their answers were definatly a bad bearing inside the transmission and they've all said its really really expensive to fix, especially since my truck has 213,000 miles on it.. who knows how much life it has left... :((
ohwell, it has actually been like this for about 4 years know, so maybe it will last forver, just with this whine..

how many rebuilds on the tranny thus far? it is not unheard of for explorers to go 300k or more before the engine has to be rebuilt...i say drive it till the tranny gives out then rebuilt it.

no rebuilds on the tranny so far...
