Yesterady I had a conversation on ICQ w/ Kris about this... I'm a little put out that I'm not able to spin my tires from a dead stop on my 91' XLT. I'm wondering if you guys have any suggestions of how i can get more low end torque outa my truck. I have the 3.55 gearing, but Kris said he could do it with his and he has 3.27's.... At this point I still have the factory wheel size on... now BFGs and not Firestones.... Would getting a chip from SmartyPants help do what I want to do?

THanks for input and suggestions

I was able to do it before the lift/larger tires, but not anymore. I have 3.73 gears now, but if I went to 4.10(maybe), or even 4.56(most likely), I should be able to turn'em over again. The Firestones were made of harder rubber so they could just slip easier, I have the BFG KO's and they grip much better so I might not be able to turn them over after the gear change anyway. If you get a lower gear(4.10) you should have no problems lighting them up.

I can spin my tires sometimes from a dead stop. It mostly depends what surface I'm on. I also have the 3.27 gearing, and could always do it, it's just easier now with my mods. Still, about the only time I can do it on asphalt is when it's cold outside, or I'm going slightly uphill from a stop. With my new shocks, I can spin them very nicely exiting a corner though!

We have a fine dirt and gravel parking lot where I work, when I punch it, talk about leaving them in the dust!

We could get 1 tire to spin (not for long) with 3.27 gears and el cheapo 235 tires (what it came with)..

With 4.10 gears, detroit locker, and 32" tires we can't spin them like we used to.. I don't know if we could without the locker but I know the explorer doesn't have enough torque/hp to spin both at the same time..

I can spin them for a long time and get a great 0-60 ft time if I put it in 4x low (with the front hubs unlocked).. I like to confused the heck out of muscle cars with that once in a while..

I can't spin mine either. I have the Superchip and 235/75/15 Wrangler rt/s's, and 3.73 gears. She gets up and goes, but I am in need of replacing shocks soon. I'm thinking that once I get the shocks replaced (Bilstein's) and put the pro comp add-a-leaf on the rear and get my Borla cat-back on, then I should be able to brake 'em loose! When I step on 'er the front end lifts like crazy, putting A LOT of weight on the rear, therefore more traction=no squealing!

Spin why...

On my 94, I can't have'em to spin. It's 3.27 and manual trans, even if I try hard. I tink it's a tire/power relation, if tires don't grab that much(not meaning there not good) then they will spin more than other. With the old Firestone I could spin, but with the Bridgestone it seem not.

Laying a strip

Ahhhhh, I think the problem is that we have heavy SUV's, these are not spors cars. They are better offroad then they are on the road. Made more for offroad performance then street performance. You want the tires to grip if they were slipping all the place what good would it be. I can spin mine around turns and get it almost sideways if i want to, but I'd rather save my tires.

Yeah yeah yeah! LOL! I know..but it's just the fact of being ABLE to do it! I don't try hardly ever, only once so far..but it's just the simple satisfaction of being able to brake them loose! If I could, I wouldn't do it often, just whenever the testostarone(sp?) levels get overloaded!

Depending on the surface I can usually get one of mine to spin. I run 4.56's with 33" muds so usually its just on concrete and I have to be turning but even then I can get a nice spin out of them. I can also get the 2nd gear squak out of them too. :)

HAHAHAHA!!!! I can get all 4 of these tires to spin!!!
