Hi all,

As usual, we seem to be last on the list behind Navigators, Expeditions and F-150s for goodies even though we're more plentiful...but where the heck can I get white-faced or better yet "Tru-glow" (white during day, Timex blue lit at night) guages for my '00 MM? Any ideas or has someone already installed them?

Thanks, AC

NRAuto and APC make white face gauges. Both of them are listed in the new Performance Products catalog. Also, you can check out www.nrauto.com.

I think they are actually called Indiglo gauges. They look awesome. But i'm pretty sure they dont offer them for the explorer . Like you said we are always last on the list. They have them for every make and model car/truck out there except for us explorer guys. I have seen them on a dodge durango and it looked sweet.

does anyone here have those gauges? How hard are they to install. I know some people have told me they are a ***** because you have to take the needles off and stuff. Do most ofy ou have this professionally done, or do it yourself, and what are the chances you can screw up your gauge cluster?

I am pretty sure Jornum has the NRAuto gauges in his '99. Also, somebody (I am thinking Kris Guilbeaux, but I'm not certain) did a write-up in the Tips section that's pretty good.

white face guages

Well I looked at NR and they say they have em for 98+ Explorers and I'm hoping that means my 2000 MM but you know how that goes...prolly one screw out of place or something. Thank you for the tip though. Really appreciate that.

Still burns my ass that they have these things in stock for 91 Escorts , Focus, Hondas:shoot: and (probably a 75 Pinto) but the Explorer crowd has to wait for the aftermarket if they even think about us at all.

:fire:

I know what you mean. It does feel kinda like we're being neglected, but there really is a lot out there is you look hard enough. When I surf the internet during Calc 2 and Acc 1001, I am always amazed at how much stuff there is for Exs that I never noticed before. Of course, nobody makes anything for the SOHC engine or the Sport model, so I'm pretty well screwed. :D

I would imagine that the MM gauges are the same as the Explorer's. Take a look at Jornum1's interior pics, he has a good shot of his white face gauges. That ought to give you a pretty good idea if they will fit or not.

Diablo, I have the NRAuto faces too. They are a do-it-yourself project, and you shouldn't have any problems as long as you follow the instructions.

RytM1,
I've been looking into getting a set of NRAuto gauges this summer. How long did it take you to install them, and how did you calibrate them?

RytM1,
Can you get a picture of what it looks like at night? I wouldn't mind getting that set-up as long as it's decent looking with the inst. panel lit up.
Thanks!

white guages

Jack, that is ONE slick ride. Your guages sure enough look like mine so I guess I should order the NRs for my '00. I also would like to hear about your installation and see how they look at night.

Incedently...you have the Windjammer I see.....how did you mount it? Screws or tape? That's the same one I just got and is down getting painted...and like I said in the "lighting" forum, was thinking about mounting fogs in it somehow.

very cool

white face gaugws

I installed the white face gauges from NR Automotive a few weeks ago in my 2001 XLT Sport. It wasn't too hard;bunch of panels on and below the dash that need to be removed to get to the instrument cluster. Just be careful when adjusting your needles with the tool provided. Like a dummy I removed the protective coating plastic on the gauges before I had my needles set so I kinda scracthed my speedometer gauge slighty. Nothing major, but enough to annoy me since I know it is there.
Now, setting the needles back to their original places is pretty staright forward except fore the speedometer which you have to do while driving. What I did was have a friend drive with me on the highway and had him go to 55mph and set his cruise control. I pulled up next to him and made sure I was going the same speed and then set my cruise control. So then I knew I was going 55 and then I was able to set the needle without out him next to me. I just went to a nice open road to push the needle in at the right spot. Kinda hard to do going 55 and watch the road at the same time so BE CAREFUL! Also, be careful you dont push the needles in too much as it may cause them to stick. That happened with my RPM needle where it would go up to say 2000 RPM and then stay there and then drop back down to a lower RPM setting once it got stuck from that position. It was a pain since I to take the dash apart again. other than those small little items, the installation was pretty much easy. I'd show some pics of kmine but other have posted them already and so it looks exactly the same.

Jeff, it took me about an hour, and the way I calibrated them was to fill the fuel tank first. I let the truck sit in my driveway for a couple hours to cool down all the way. Then I started the truck long enough to note where all the needles pointed. The speedo was a little different. Once I got inside the gauges, and got to the point of pulling the needles, I pulled the post that the tip of the speedo needle rests on at the 0 mph mark (this will let your needle drop below zero). Mine pointed somewhere toward the "R" in the gear selector/indicator. The speedo needle has some "pre-load" to it, if you put the pin back in, then the needle resting on it, the speedo will not read right. You need to install the speedo needle first at the noted point, then push it above "0", put the pin back in, and let the needle fall on it. Just as a precaution, before the whole dash was put back together, I put the instrument cluster back in place, and I paced someone who I told to do 30 mph, just to make sure it was right. The rest of the needles are straight forward on the "calibration". Just make sure that the truck is in the same condititon as when you took them off (i.e. cold, full tank of gas). The only problem I ran into was the wire for the gear selector that ran up to the indicator. I didn't have enough slack in mine to pull my cluster out enough, so I went under the dash, and unhooked the wire from the steering column. Hope this helps.

Thanks AC, I installed the windjammer with the tape. I'm not fond of adding extra holes to the body of my ride. It has held up fine for 3 years, but if you are planning on mounting lights in it somehow, I would suggest mounting it with the screws.

As for the night pic, here it is, sorry it isn't any clearer, I have an older digital camera, and the resolution kinda sucks...

Found these on EBay. Check em Dead Link Removed

Hmmm, looks kinda cool. It looks like he has another set for 95-97 Explorers Dead Link Removed , and a set for 98-01 Explorers Dead Link Removed listed also (only 2 days left for bidding). Someone by the name of Quakecom1 was high bidder on a set, but I don't know if that's the same Quakecom from this site, someone might try giving him a holler and seeing if he has them installed yet, and if they are all they are cracked up to be.

This seems almost too good to be true. if this guy has them for sale, then why aren't they available anywhere else? This just seems kinda strange too me. I hope they are for real though, that would be great.

I thought the same thing. You can check out the remarks about the seller (for what its worth). It seems that there was mostly good things said about the product, delivery, and support, with a few negative comments. If you look at the text behind the gauge pics, there seems to be a company name, but never heard of them. It does seem kinda strange that some guy has them for so many applications, and places like APC don't even have them yet.

it says in the description of the product, it says you dont need to reove your needles to install. Im guessing that its just some sort of lighting system that installed. It says you have to already have the gauges shown in the pic. The pic shows the gauges of a 2001 Sport/Sport Trac. You can tell because the entire gauge panel is white unlike the indvidual gauges on the ones from NR automotive.

Yeah..its me :-)

Hey guys,
it was me who purchased the white face gauge for my 97 Eddie Bauer a couple of days ago on ebay. I should get them in a couple of days. I'll keep you guys posted...

I talked to the guy who was selling them in the auction and he said he would sell them to me for $100 ($92 + $8 S&H). I decided to buy them since I have been looking for them for a while. I had to add $15 for a digital controller though. He gave me this link:

to see the description of the face. It is for a subaru but you can still get an idea.
