just wondering who has had tranny and/or rear end problems ... have a few questions for yall ...

what gears do you have?
4wd or 2wd?
what size engine?
lift or other mods that could be detrimental to the running gear?
and mileage when they went out?

just wondering the "average life" if you wanna call it that

I had to get a new rear end at around 127,000 miles, and the ex was all stock then. My stock transmission is still doin pretty good at 140,x.. miles (knock on wood)
Also I'm a 4.0

New rear end at about 120k (started whining again at about 160k).

Tranny had some problems when new (<10k) and then no problems until about 110k (O/D light flashing) replaced solinod block and has been fine, I have been changing the fluid about every 30k or so (flushed it when changed solinod, just pan and fliter after that).

Stock 4.0

Had mine both go around 86000 miles got 88000 on the explorer now. Only good part is I bought an extended warranty on my explorer so I only had to pay 100 to get a rebuild trans, and a new rear end, and rear wheel bearings.

v-8 4.6L 3.73 gear, XLT, 4x4. explorer is all stock, I bought it used so the person before me really abused the X. Planning on alot of mod'ing this summer.

thanks guys ... keep em coming ... im just trying to see if theres a "pattern" in what goes out with what setup ... i havent had any problems yet (thank god)

02 v8, 3.73 LSD. Had it rebuilt at 75k. pinion bearings, clutch packs were shot. It had made noise since day 1. I am the original owner. only mods are K&N intake and cat back exhaust. Also had to replace all four front ball joints at the same time.

Stock '02, V6, 4x4 with 132,000 miles.
I just got it last summer and had to put the vehicle's 3rd transmission in it (previous owner had it rebuilt once in the past). The rear end just started to whine within the last month so we'll see where that leads.

04 EB 4.0 4WD with 56000 miles. Other than KKM Filter, tune, and underdrive crank pulley the engine is stock. No issues with either transmission or axles (3.55 open gears). Transmission does run about 5-10 degrees warmer with the bigger tires, but is still about within normal operating range (150-170)..I see 172-173 in warm weather when using A/C and driving up hills a lot.

I expect that to improve with the 4.10 gear swap that I'm working on this week.

'02 4x4 v8 w/3.73LS.

I drive it like I stole it so that doesn't help, but around 75,000 miles I had the transfercase rebuilt, around 100,000 I had the transmission rebuilt and the rear end leaks a little bit and howls like a ****. Few more things that could use replacing, but I don't want to think about that right now, hurts my wallet:(

I have 20's + exhaust/tune + heavy foot= accelerated wear:D

I had the tray go completely at 70k in my 2002, recently had the carrier barrings go in rear end at 167k. No other problems with either since. My rig has no lift and is a 4.0.
