Does anybody have any winter mods they are working on? Any plans to go off roading in the snow? (Yes, my pavement queen of a truck gets driven in the snow.) I am working on adding some more lights to my truck. I will be adding some hideaway strobes in the tail lights. I think after that, my light project should be complete. I have also been busy with work and also the wedding plans. We officaly booked our reception spot. Next is the DJ & Photo person. We have also been working on the honey moon. We have plans to go to Hawaii. I want to visit Pearl Harbor. I have been watching a lot of the Military Channel. So I have been geting into the battleships and etc. I have also been constructing my family slide show for Christmas day. Leebo on the boards has been helping me with some videos. That's it for now

Hmm, I'll probably be outside tanning or something.

my winter plans are to start wheeling since it's too hot for the last 6 months to be driving my truck!!! Winter down here means tons of wheeling, hiking, motocross, dunes trips, trips to the ski hill 2 hours away in Flagstaff and you can finally get some good water wakeboarding if you toss on a dry suit. I could book a different activity every weekend from now until new years!

...and I'm sorry, didn't realize this was the New England club. Hope I didn't rub it in, I'll be back in the midwest before long dealing with similar weather that you guys have.

Don't sweat it! I'm a displaced New Englander now living in Prescott, AZ. I say enjoy the snow, I'm gonna enjoy my first above-freezing winter ever. :p:

I have been very busy with work for the past year and have finally gotten to the point of settling down.. :banghead: Anyway my mods were to get my truck back on the road as its been down with a several minor issues. Primarily the starter was on its way out and a rear brake line leak developed between the fuel tank and frame rail..

Swapping in a new stater was easy and only took a few leisurely hours to do. The rear brake line on the other had was a complete pita. I had to drop the fuel tank skid plate & fuel tank. I then replaced the brake line from the T-case back to the hose connection near the rear axle. When I tried to bleed the rear brake lines I snapped off BOTH rear bleeder valves. I tried to drill out the broken bleeders and even used several easy outs to no avail. I then decided a new rear brake job was in order and replaced the rear shoes and wheel cylinders. I was then able to bleed the brakes. Unfortunately I had to order new fuel tank brackets as the original ones had seen better days; Additionally the two beefy fuel tank skid plate mounting brackets were severely rusted and needed to be replaced. I fab'd up new brakets out of 3/16" x 2" stock in my metal bender.. I then had to weld it all up... I then discovered my battery was DOA (not surprising since it was a Sears diehard from 1998 ) I picked up a new battery, re-wired the battery terminals and fired it up... So as it stands now my X is back on the road and I will be taking it once a week to work in addition to any bad weather days that may crop up.

Hate to rain on your parade there Issac but Prescott does get snow. Anything above 5000ft in AZ gets snow. I use to live in Cottonwood so I know.

As far as the winter, I will of course be using the 4X4 as soon as it snows. Haven't don any work on Scooby like I wanted to but hey that's what the spring is for :)

I'm well aware we can get snow. It'll relieve me of my withdrawal, not to mention my mazda is unreal on snowy parking lots! :D

Oh, and aren't you glad, John, that you're a pro at dropping gas tanks? :p:

No wonder you never pick up the phone when I call.

What the heck are you doing in Arizona? Last I knew you were in New Hampshire. And you can have the hot AZ weather, I went to Florida for Christmas last winter to visit my brother and his kids and it was 80 plus the whole week, although I loved visiting my brother, I don't care for hot weather, I like my change of seasons

what's up everyone?

my SAS is almost done (finally), just a few odds and ends left. if anyone is planning any trips this winter, shoot me a pm!

I plan on putting Fox coilovers up front to get rid of those ungodly torsion bars and a winch as well. maybe some lockers if I can afford them.

A week after getting my truck back on the road it went down again :dead: The driver's side rear drum brake was sticking/engaging when going forward, but was fine when going in reverse  It turned out the Brake shoe mounting stud had pulled away from the backing plate and was several degrees out of alignment. :dunno: This caused the brake shoes to be miss-aligned to the drums and to hang up when going forward.

Although the backing plate is only held on with 4 bolts you need to remove the entire axle shaft to get it off. A pita when you consider I had to do this twice; Once for the junk yard axle to get the part, and once on my axle to install it. Of course my rear locker was a pita to remove as the passenger side "C" clip took me over 4hours to get out :banghead:

Thus why I traded mine in! Plus I didn't have the space I'd have liked to have...ever. Not till I got to AZ anyways. But whatever...hopefully it'll get running and stay working thru the winter so you can avoid upkeep in the freezing cold or putting the truck up for winter altogether!

Oh, and Dannyboy!! I don't live all THAT far from you, and now my youngest brother is living in Mesa to go to school. How many "explorerers" are around there anyways?
