No not for me. My brother is looking at a 1996 4Runner Limited.

Seems nice enough, but as I am the mechanical one, guess who he's looking to for answers.

So I am wondering if there are any gurus or anyone that knows of a similar site to this one pertaining to 4Runners.

Thanks!

All I know is all that I've ridden in feel like crap and hydroplane easily.

for modifications, you may want to check out a compay called downey .... they are pretty decent vehicles.... and they are popular with the offroad crowd as well....

I know they are gutless wonders. At least the pre '98 (I think) ones are. The only cool thing about them is the back window rolls down. Why don't you tell your brother to just get an Explorer?!

Dude, I know. I've tried. "Look at a Mounty, Explorer V8, whatever" He's just ending a lease on a 01 Sport...

And I let him drive the 95 XLT afterwards and he's like "Well this thing drives pretty nice too". Then I said, "Yea for about 1/2 the price. Give it some gas!" Then he asks if we could do the exhaust and intake like mine to the 4Runner. I say, "Sure thing."

I try to explain things like look at the # of them on the road, ofcourse you'll hear more horror stories about the Ex...Every car company has it's Lemons...yada, yada. Look at mine, it's been a great one. So on and so fourth...

I'll will say that for the limited test drive it's about as fast as my 95'. Though mine sounds a LOT cooler and is a bit faster and it weighs in at about 1500+ more Lbs.

I have to say that the 4Runner is a pretty nice truck. It has a lot we wish FORD put in to begin with. Factory locker in the Rear, Manual Transfer Case with NEUTRAL!, electric rear window... Good clearance...

I think he likes the reliability rep. of Toyota as he really doesn't want to mess with repairs etc...Not that I have had any with mine, just preventative maint. and aftermarket gizmos...

Toyota offers much more in the Aftermarket arena than the Explorer does...

But that's what makes the world turn right, we Exploere guys and gals just have more of the "PIONEERING" spirit! So for someone who dosen't want to get thier hands dirty or mod things major I think that the 4Runner will be a good one for him. Looks pretty good stock too. Better than mine if it were more stock. But I'll keep the Ex and if he gets the 4Runner I'll let you all know how it fares.
