I was looking at a stainless Gibson Cat-back system for my 95 XLT 4x4. 4dr and 4 litre.

If anyone has this setup I would love to heat how well they like it.

It seems like a nice product and all.

How was it to install??

Thanks for the info....

While I am here does anyone know about a softride type shackel..I saw them in a friends mag but can't remember what they were called...THey lift the rear until loaded then compress and let the leafs carry the load...

Apparently made for heavy duty apps to soften the unloaded ride of the truck...

Fischer:

I ordered the Gibson Catback Exhaust from Performanceproducts.com and i am happy as a clam.

I installed the exhaust with a buddy of mine in about 2 hours, shooting the breeze and having a few cold ones in the process.

Its got a nice deep tone in idle, but yet it doesnt bother on top end. Performance wise, i got a better throttle response and better torque.

Let me know what you end up doing.

I'm thinking about getting the same exhaust :D If I remember correctly, they come in aluminium and stainless steel. Any big difference between those two?

They called it aluminized, it's not aluminum. I have no idea what aluminized mean but it's not aluminum.

The cost is the only difference between the aluminzed and stainless steel version. Performance is almost the same, may be the stainless steel is a little better because the material has less friction.

I have more info at Gibson website. They come in Aluminized steel & Stainless steel. The stainless steel version has a guaranteed rust protection. Thanks ;)

Thanks Fellas!!

So it sounds like the Gibson is the way to go. My old man has some exhaust on his 98 that is loud as Hell. It has the worst droan around 2000+ rpm, which just so happens to be where the auto's like to run at highway speed in O/D. It is a bit annoying. From what I have read on this site I am willing to bet it is a Flowmaster muffler with a custom catback. Cant stand it...

I think that the 'Aluminized' is just a steel aluminum alloy, essentially it is the same material that your truck comes with stock.

The stainless steel of course is more expensive though a lot tougher and has higher corrosion resistance. Although I think that the specs are the same on both inasmuch as the horsies and torque that it frees up.

I think that I am going with the Gibson Stainless man!!! :smoke: :chug:

I've got the stainless steel cat-back on my 91 ranger, and it was a major improvement. I got smoother shifts, smoother acceleration, and a noticeable power gain. I like it cuz it's loud when you want it to be, but it mellows out for the highway cruisin. I wouldn't recommend anything but Gibson, it prolly took me 45 minutes to get the old one off and about 10 to get the new one.
