To both ease congestion and help the environment, Darling said that new funding will be made available for road-pricing schemes around the country, with tenders invited to test the technology. From 2009 there will be a "major reform" of the regime for taxing cars. This will involve new bands of vehicle excise duty (VED) for newly manufactured low-emitting cars.
From April 2010, there will be no VED,(vehicle exise duty) in a car's first year if it emits less than 130 grammes per kilometre of CO2. The most polluting cars will be charged a higher tax rate in the first year - already dubbed the "showroom tax". (thats cars above 190 grames-US!) Also, all Porsch, Rrange Rover, most Saabs, some Volvos, Some Vws, some- well all brands actually!
This is the essence of the UK budjet as announced today regarding cars.
We pay at this time, £1.06 per litre for petrol, and near £300.00 for annual road tax, Insurance for our cars is high, I am a 42 year old male living in Richmond Surrey, a nice suburb.....I pay around £460 a year.

What with the news lately that members of parliament have been asked to substantiate expenses- what they did was SHRED all the receipts and expenses paperwork, claiming it was standard practice!
They are allowed to claim up to £250 per expense WITHOUT providing receipts!
WHAT IN HELL!
YOU OR I ran a buisness like that and we would be in jail for evasion of taxes!
They want us to buy crap small boxes that drive like rubbish and run on fish farts!
I say- Hang you cheating lying thieving members of government, your cars are expensed by US!
I am livid and crazy angry that again and repeatedly the motorist in Britain is hammered!(not so great any more is it?)
The alleged congestion issues are born of the fact that roads in and around London are so old and have been around since the Romans were here!
Nothing was designed for modern cars and people to work from offices!
