Why does my seat do this?

My 96 XLT's willow green leather interior had those. The 04 ST does not. I never used them, though... I tried, and it felt awkward.

my leather ones do

I wondered why there was a break in the seat there... I'm gunna go try it!

They are thigh support. BMW's with Sport packages come with this kind of seats. That little thing pulls out. '91-'96 Explorers with Sport buckets come with thigh support and lateral support for your thighs. '97-present Explorers are without neither of those due to cost cutting measures.

yea I have the lateral support on the drivers side... the thy supports are neat but I had problems getting my leg between the support and the steering wheel! LMAO...

this is one of the many reasons why first gen seats are better than the newer ones on many cars

Mine does it to, i always thought that bar was for grabbing when jumping the truck:D

No really i did, i thought it was a grab bar......

thats what the "oh ****" handles are for

don't have that option on mine,

but i like my seats just they way they are

as short as my legs are I could use it as a foot rest
:)

What's with you guys? My friend's X has those, and we discovered them like 8 years ago! I found them comfortable for long rides. Don't know how they are for the driver though. Looks like they could make it hard to get in and out if you left them extended.

.....And out fell a five dollar bill, .037 cents in change, a receipt to the dry cleaners, and a Mcdonalds ketchup packet:D

That beats what I found when I first pulled the seat thing out on my 96. The leather had accumulated more crumbs, dirt, and crap than I'd care to see. I pushed it back in and left it in until I detailed the X... :)

I had that on my '95. I have long legs but I never used it. Kinda glad my Sport doesn't have it.

My 89 Ranger STX had those type of supports - my 97 Sport has the 6 way drivers seat, but doesn't have the thigh support. I liked the seats in the Ranger better.

i really dont think that these are THAT rare, but just not made anymore

WOAH!!! Yanno, I always thought that those handles were standard on all seats to move them forward and back for people with no power option, but then when the power option went in I just figured they made the handles stationary and they just stayed there. I never knew it did that!!!!!

I didn't know that there were cloth bucket seats with the power butt-squeezer option. I though that was an Eddie Bauer thing. I never used the pull out thing on my old explorer. It was only good for catching french fries.
