Does it clunk as it is turning over or after it has already started? Is it just one clunk or continuous clunking? Can you be a bit more discriptive??

mine "clunks" too when i start it up...not sure when when i'm starting it but i think it's when it starts to turn over...it also does it when i let out the clutch going in reverse... i wonder what it is...

Yes It seems to happen just as it turns over, Just one low klunk kinda sound..... looked around a little today but did'nt see anything out of order that I could see???????
Tanks for the responses hope to hear more .....Matt!!!

Matt,

My first guess would be the starter is not engaging/disengaging properly, making the noise. Another thought might be the cat heat shield, but if that was loose you'd probably hear the clunking even after startup.

Sounmds like...?

If it sounds like it's coming from the dash, it could be the mixer door. If it's vacuum operated, it's springing to it's neutral position as it sits, and then when you start it, it snaps back into place as the engine begins to generate vacuum. Try turning the heater off all together before parking it overnight, then see if it does it when you start it in the morning. Let us know.

Well no luck so far.... The heat shields are good. the starter was replaced about 5 months ago jacked it up and checked it anyway and it is about 100 deg. in the shade so noooooooooo heater thanks for the help I will keep on looking and let you know If I find it!!!!!!!!!!!!
