My 04 has a wierd squealing noise coming from the engine compartment. The noise only happens when the pedal is in a certain condition, it doesnt matter what gear or if the engine is at operating temperature. Can anyone help me identify this noise? Thanks.

Could be the belt or a pulley.

Mine was making a whistling noise (like a tea kettle) from the engine compartment when cruising (stopped making noise under acceleration and when letting off throttle). I went down the path of vacuum leaks and couldn't find any. I changed the air filter and the whistle stopped.

2fish - your noise was probably caused by the IAC, when they start to wear out they start to make that weird whistle type noise. Don't be surprised if it comes back

explorer04 - Does it sound like a belt squealing? or maybe a bearing on the idle or tensioner pulley. Does the sound change when you turn the steering wheel?

Start with the "simple" recommendations of those above.....remove the belt, then check each of the pulleys for any resistance:
1) Idler pulley
2) Belt Tensioner Pulley Assembly
3) Water Pump, Alternator, A/C, PS Pump, etc all should spin freely

Inspect the Harmonic Balancer........it appears to be worn on my wife's. I'll be changin' it early next week - hopefully that will cure her woes!

Here's another thread where I posted a pic of the worn Harmonic Balancer:

i have replaced the idler pulley, dont know about the tensioner. The only thing that gets me is that it does not make the sound at idle, only when the pedal is in a certain position. If i push down harder or let up the squeal goes away.

Have you changed your serpentine belt ? Pull off the belt and spin all the pulleys to see if one of them has issues.
