I'm not familiar with where the head unit is located in your explorer but...in one of my previous cars I had this same problem. It was because the head unit was very close in proximity to the air vents. And during the winter I would turn on the heat and it would make the head unit almost hot to the touch. It did the oppoite in the winter...even to the point of leaving condensation on my cd's when I removed them.

This is what the interior of your X looks like right?

This is the same setup my old car had...the vents right next to the head unit/stereo. It's nothing to worry about, it's just the heater making it hot more than likely.

My aftermarket Pioneer headunit gets hot, and I remember my old Ford JBL unit did the same. Electronics, especially ones without fans get hot.

If it's too hot to touch, or you get burned - then I'd worry. But otherwsie, enjoy.

It's probably because you got an Explorer that was supposed to be sold in a northern climate, and it has the CD warmer in it so the discs don't freeze.

j/k :D That's normal.

Yes Lucky but it seems that below the vents are the ...

manual temp control knobs.....

Thanks for the help.

CD heater hunh ?

yeah my CD's come out nice and tosty too. I am pretty sure it is a non-issue.

the solution is to remove the ducts and cover them with like 8 layers of heat tape- thats what i did.

lol- but i don't think you want to do that on your new x. Its not a problem unless it breaks something, and its very common that this happens.

cd warmer

Cd warmer eh? guess that came with the heated seat option package ....my CD's get warm all the time. Only in the single player. The multi unit is fine. :D :can: Must be that colder climate thing.

Your wife is a typical woman- always worrying about every little things. I bet she wanted you to drive over 500 miles just to check it out and expect you to drive back, huh? :p

I have a 2000 that the stock radio does that as well. I have never had a problem with it.

I have NO clue why this was in the 911 forum...I am moving it to Audio...LOL :D

that was in 911... good call crank.. i say if it wasnt on fire, she could just drive with it turned off ;)
