Hey guys,
My wife just called from Jacksonville (350 miles from home) and her '89 Volvo 740 is crapping out. Keeps blowing a fuse of some sort. It must be a master fuse of somekind as she loses AC, blinkers, power windows and what not. After replacing the fuse it will run fine for a while and blow again. any ideas what might be causing the problem? I know it's kind of vague, and could be anything. But any thoughts are appreciated.

Could be a short in one of the motors the fuse controls. If one of the motors is going out, the resistance in the winding can get real high and trip a fuse. Try having her run it without the a/c and see if it still blows. That's a likely place for a high resistance situation

Jeff,
You are right 100%

Just talked to the mechanic in Jax - thankfully he is honest. AC compressor is frozen up - causing the short. He did a diagnostic, evacuated the freon, and replaced the fuse for her for $30. Not bad. Now I have something to do on Thursday!
