For about a month or so my wife has had her 03 explorer shut off/stall in the rain. It hasnt happened on a sunny day. She said there is also "an awful clicking noise" coming from the engine compartment. Of course when I took it for a ride I could not replicate it. Going to keep trying. Does anybody have any ideas about what the hell is causing this?

Thanks

what motor? On thing to try is on a dry day, might help in the dark too, with it running (safety first) take a spray bottle full of water and spray the plug wires or harnesses till you can get it to repeat. Might as well do a visual on the big common wires and crawl under it look for wiring thats missing its protective plastic. . .melted wires etc. . .the clicking noise sounds like a short or arc where the wire is coming to close to the body/frame (ground).

My first thought was also plug wires. If they are original wires.. I'd be looking there first.

X2

Spray the plug wires with a salt water solution in a darkened area (or at night) and watch the show...

that was going to be my suggestion.

and also the crank positioning sensor
