I found a set of 2003 Escape rims. I know they will fit lug-wise but will they work with the 40 mm + offset that they are & 7" wide ? Will they rub on components etc? I plan on putting a 225 60 16 tire on them. Thanks.
Ever tried tirerack.com website? It wont let you pick Explorer & wheels in any of their searches.

Due to roll-over issues with the Explorers, a lot of manufacturers will not issue large tires or different wheels to Explorer owners due to law suits.

I believe the offset is way wrong for a 2nd gen. I know 3rd gen explorer wheels will not fit without wheel spacers, as they tuck in too much and rub the frame and inner fenderwells and just look funny because they reduce overall track width.

If you really want to try, get one of the wheels and jack up your truck (preferably the front) and bolt just the wheel on. Then you can check for fitment without commiting to it.

they will fit and the offset is fine

they will be tucked "in" just a bit (a couple millimeters) more than the stock wheels were.

watch out though, they use slightly different lugnuts- if i remember correctly.
