NO WAY!!!!! I just put 275/55/20's on my stock height Explorer. You would not be able to go any bigger without serious rubbing! Even that height, at full lock, just contacts my inner fender liner on the right side. That is more due to the offset of my wheels than anything else. A 275/65/20 tire is huge! That is a 34" tall tire, which would require at least 3" of lift, if not more.
Increases sidewall stiffness and better looks are a couple of reasons. Plus, Explorers aren't exactly trucks. I have 20" wheels on my Ex, and with a decent sidewall tire, they don't look out of place at all. Better than anything smaller than 17" by a long shot!
