A guy I work with has a stock 03 Sport Trac CD player that he said I could have. My 96 has the factory tape player that still sounds great. If it will work it would be cool because its free. Im just worried about the rear seat controlls.

i wouldnt try it unless u know what kind of fuse it requires. the harness might fit in it but you could possibly pop the fuse. popping the fuse isnt bad but annoying if it keeps happening :( why not just get an after market HU? if u dont plan on installing a amp then u could pick up a ok HU from walmart for $50. just a suggestion if ur on a budget. also im highly doubting itll fit in a 96.

They both look like they're the same size and they both look the same but mine is a tape player and his is a cd. There are two reasons Id like to use his. One his is FREE. Two I dont like how the adapters look. I dont like how they reduce the size for the smaller HU and plus his it would look OEM. If I blow a fuse than I just replace it and reinstall mine.

Yup, completely different.

Thanks guys.:(

If you really wanted to use it you could go to a Best Buy and get a wiring harness for the '96 and a reverse harness for the '03 and splice them together like you would if you were adding an aftermarket radio.

I thought about doing that. I'll look at the wire diagrams. I was thinking about looking for a HU that is the same size as the factroy unit.

If you knew all the wiring colors, couldn't you just leave the harness plug that's plugged into the new deck, and just snip it, along with the factory harness plug, then match up and splice all the corresponding wires?
