Will a 5.0 fit a 98 4.0 Explorer trans?

We want to get rid of the junk 4.0 motor in our 98 Explorer Sport 4X4. Will a 5.0 bolt in, or would the trans have to be changed as well? Gotta get this thing running! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

they are different. starter is on the wrong side, and bolt pattern is different. that and if i am not wrong, the transfer case from a awd 5L has a different bolt pattern then the 4L case

Not only would you need the entire drivetrain I would assume the harness and computer would be wrong.

I have an Explorer Sport 4.0 OHV 5spd manual trans. Will the 4.0 SOHC motor bolt up to my trans or will it be easier to just swap to a 5.0 from a 5spd Mustang?

A 5.0 is a 5.0, they are all the same as far as bell housing bolt pattern.

the OHV and SOHC V6 trans are the same. The 5.0L trans is different and it will not fit the V6.
