And if it does throw a code does it show up in the engine test or the tranny diagnostic?

I've had o/d light blinking, surging at 65 mph, not giving me anything when I hit the gas pedal at stop...clunking when slowing down, etc.

I put it in the tranny shop yesterday and they can't get it to show up on the diagnostic and after searching that's one of the potential problems I think...

Sometimes the TPS throws a code, sometimes it doesn't. Wierder still, sometimes the TPS causes MAS or IAT codes.

Alec is correct, sometimes a bad TPS won't trigger a code at all. If the X has upwards of 100K miles on it, the TPS may be worn out.

I'm surprised the transmission shop didn't test the TPS, since it's so easy to do, and has a big effect on how the transmission shifts.

Basically you are looking for a SMOOTH transition from about 1v to 4v on the signal wire, when the throttle is advanced. If the TPS is worn, the voltmeter will show an erratic voltage increase, usually at the low end where the throttle moves the most.

Mine did when it went in the middle of a 2 hr roadtrip. CEL turned off after like 5 seconds though, and then when I stopped the engine was idling at 2000 rpm.

what should the voltage be at idle? on our honda race car it's at .45V.

I think it's .96V.

Yeah it's supposed to be at .96v. Adjusting it really helps.

.96 volts hits the sweet spot.

I own a '92 X, and I adjusted my TPS Sensor to .96 volts and at 213,000 miles it runs as if it was a new motor. I am glad I've found this site and I thank many of you's guys for your POSTS!!!!!
