I would like to put 18's on with 255/55/18. I've searched and found some great info but not on this one. I still want to use 4 wheel drive as well, once in a while. i know they will fit size wise too. thanks

Yes they will fit. You might have slight rubbing at full lock, but it shouldn't be an issue.

So it doesn't matter if a truck is 2x4 or 4x4, they will still fit? :us:

On 91-94s, it does matter, but on 95+ it does not matter.

Thats cool cause I was wondering if I was gonna have to put special wheels on because of the 4x4.

How about 18x9 lightening wheels??

I thought that Lightenings had a different bolt pattern.
I would love to do that!

Lightning wheels wont bolt on, as they're a different pattern... they've got a metric bolt pattern

... i cant think what the metric size is off-hand, but they are 5 on 5.5, just like Dodge, fullsize Ford, old Jeep, etc. your X is 5 on 4.5

Lightning wheels are 5x135mm.

that ws my first post!! and I got the answer to my question as well. thanks again, I'll be around.

lightning wheels

I found a company that will make hub-centric adapters to fit the Explorer so that you can get lightning rims. If your interested in the company just respond back!:D

hmmmmm... sounds good... whats the company? I have a friend thats selling his stock lightning rims and if i can find an adapter, there goin on.

the website is www.silverhorseracing.com/billet_cnc_parts.htm make sure you tell them you need hub-centric wheel adapters to fit to the Explorer not the wheel. They claim that there will be no vibration or mis-haps with there adapters. Like everyone says there is when putting adapters on explorers when I was looking to put lightning rims on mine. I think you have enough room under the fenderwell for a 1 inch adapter. the backspacing for the lightning rim is 51/2. So measure from the face of the hub to the fender lip. You have the backspacing so you should see if you have enough room for four more inches plus the 1 inch adapter. if you dont want it sticking out from the fenderwell. I have an 01 so I may have more room. but the suspension is the same till 02. Good luck! Let me know if it works for you. stangrdr25@yahoo.com
