cylinder heads are leaking I'm about to make this a project to replace the head gaskets, but I want a guide and I was wondering if haynes would have instructions.

Yes it does. What it doesn't have is common sense lol. Read through completely disassembly and assembly directions before starting the project.

Yes sir! Thank you Bill I feel much better now which I am going to buy the manual.:salute:

How did you determine the head gaskets were leaking? Did you have some nasty growth on the spark plug electrodes on some of the cylinders? My truck consistently had that on number 1 cylinder when the lower manifold gasket was leaking coolant into that cylinder.

I bought my Haynes off Craigslist for $5 plus I gave the guy $5 to mail it to me since he was 40 miles away. Makes a nice companion to the factory manual regardless of what repairs you have in store for you.

Haynes is worth the money, pays for itself first job. Some decent test procedures for all of the sensors, which is worth a lot considering you read about people throwing sensors at these rigs, and never even testing the old ones! "Well I replaced the CKP and it starts now" 99 times out of 100 you can put the old one back on and get the same result, because that connector gets abused by coolant, oils, road spray, etc., and just needed to be re-connected! Oh I love the "I replaced the CMP, CKP, TPS, and it still won't start"

Well the two mechanics that looked at my truck said the issue was the headgaskets, I can see the coolant coming out if I look in the wheel wells.I don't know about the spark plug electrodes though? I wonder maybe mine is like yours? I'm going to be purchasing a complete head gasket kit.

Yeah I'm excited it looks pretty good it looked like the better choice in comparison to the chiltons. Haynes had really good reviews and chiltons had a lot of bad reviews and a lot of people saying the books wrong or inaccurate I think I made the right choice as far as books.

Just buy them both. There are some repairs that Haynes explains well, and there are other repairs that Chilton's explains well. Also, the Chilton's book is about twice as many pages as the Haynes book. That fact alone means that some jobs are going to be more thoroughly explained in the Chilton's book.

Good point lobo I'll have to grab both then . More information the better thanks.
