Explorer '99 XLT 4x4
i just got my firestones replaced with the goodrich 31''/ 10.5'' KOs. i just wanted to make sure that they would fit on my x without rubbing before i slap them on (tomorrow morning). its a '93 xlt with no lift. if they did rub, is there any easy trimming i could do in a certain place to fix the problem?

lastly when i put these bad boys on is it going to affect my speedometer much? how much will i have to adjust it?

thanks a lot, i am kind of in a hurry because i leave for idaho tomorrow afternoon (i live in california) to stay for a year. so please if you can help me out time is kind of of the essence.

thanks,
andrew

ok it says that some people have had them fit. if it dosent fit mine then am i goin to have to do some major trimming (im new to this stuff) or just a little easy trimming that wont take long? should i get someone at the car place to trim it for me?

HELP...

from what I've heard the most that has rubbed is a bit on the bumper and the plastic on the wheel-wells. Both are an easy trim. I haven't done this myself, but I'm doubting it would be more than a few inches either way. :)

thanks a lot, any more helpfull hints? im open to all comments...

Wold the 31x10.50s fit on a 1998 X xlt 2wd with no rubbing(the site says that 31x10.50s are the best you can do does that mean no rubbing or very little rubbing?)? any helpful links?

ok89.. I have a '96 and when I put my 31 kos on they rubbed on the top part of the plastic fender wells (front fenders). I did the torsion twist and it fixed that problem right up.

i went to get my 31's on and they said that i HAD to have a 2'' lift before they could put them on... now my dad thinks this guy knows everything cuz he works at the car place and now my dad wont let me put them on. what should i do? just go somewhere else to get them on? should i just get a second opinion? HELP!

the older explorers are kinda "funny" about what size works best. On some 30's are the best fit, on others 31's work fine. It just depends on how the truck was built. The most I've ever heard having to be shaved was a bit on the front bumper(sawzall is my friend) and maybe a bit of the wheel wells. You may be rubbing at full flex, but that's what bump stops are for. :)

My suggestion would be to ask them to test fit a pair. You may spend some extra time there, but it would be worth it. Many places will do it no problem. If they don't rub you know you're fine...if they do rub you can check out how much you need to shave. :)

You probably already have the tires on but.....

Really I think that you should be fine, having a later model X. From what I know, some early X's that are high in miles and wear have trouble fitting 31's because of worn out springs. This shouldnt be a problem for you. You might have to do a minor torsion twist, and the trimming should be very little. They will rub at full lock or when you have the susp. compressed, but other that that, you should be fine.

i have a 96 and just put 31x10.5x15 on my truck and the wheel on the front passenger side rubs a lil bit when u turn the wheel all the way and u hit a bump but thats it.

Holy old thread batman! Serioulsy, I think that he's probably replaced his tires at least twice since 2001
