Are you sure that it has a 4R44E, and not an A4LD? The 5R55E is more upgraded, and tougher than the 4R44E. Try to get another 5R55E.

not worried about tough im more worried about it working for a week or two.
i have a 700r4 trany with t case from my old 88 suburban i plan i puttin in but im in the middle or rebuilding it so for a temp fix i wanna make sure thi tranny will work

not as simple as losing a gear, look at the other post. Also a 93 A4LD is gonna get shredded with a powerful SOHC engine.

what is a4ld???
and like i said it just gotta make it for a week of city driving

A4LD is the pre 95 trans used on the explorers and rangers. It is not durable by any stretch. As for one week of use, I can assure you will get first gear. The A4ld has less computer controls so it may upshift, albeit with flashing dashlights. I'm pretty sure they are the same size physically, but that is something to check!

These things are very computer controlled and who knows what could happen.

The person you may want to Private message is Glacier991. He is a true expert on these units. I would take his word as final.

If you do get the A4LD to work, we would love to know about it.

Why would you do that when Ford has every bit...if not better...options for you? That's a lot of adapting. Or are you going with a complete Chevy powertrain?

IIRC, the 93 Ranger should have the A4LD, not the 4R44E. I don't think they used the 4R int he Ranger until '95, but don't hold me to that....

If, in fact, it's an A4LD out of a 93, I don't think it'll even bolt-up.

Also, I've heard that the 700R4 is a pretty nice fit for a second-gen Ex...
