okay installed my winch and was playing around with it, using it pulling just the weight of my truck free wheeling up a small hill. And with reving it to 2-3K everytime i hit the bottom it would drop my battery gauage right down and almost stall my truck........

i have the 95 amp altenator so i was going to look for the 135 amp from newer RBVs and i was thinking of a dual battery set-up....but i don't have the money for the painless kit (hell i really have no money at all) does anybody have a really cheap way to hook up two batteries safely

i dont know about that ..... but it looks sweet !!!!!!!

Cheapest way would be just run them in parallel to combine the amperage. Costs nothing but the cables. I wouldn't recommend that as it would suck to have two, drain both of them and lose the option to jump yourself, but it's certainly cheap.

Yeah, just do that... and get one of those Canadian Tire jump start things to use if you do run out of juice... or just carry a spare battery...

Actually, I'm sure you could run the batteries in parallel, but have only one connected full time and one running off a relay... that way you could have the switch on your dash for your second battery, and if you needed both you could flick the switch, and if you only need one then switch it back. Or... have both connected in parallel and both on a relay, that way you can run one, the other, or both...

Just a thought... <Shrugs>

BTW, nice looking truck.

thanks for the comments and compliments

i think there is a thread about running two battires off of a switch...i actually saw it come up today...

I've got the same truck and the same winch, and no problems. It sounds like a charging problem to me not a winch problem.

I have a heavier truck (4 door) and a Tmax 9k and I have not had problems with the winch sucking all the power from the alternator (stock alternator)

I got the same winch had it for 3 years...what some poeple do is add a batter for the winch and then just run the hot wire from the alt to it... seen it on a few wreckers that had eletric winches .... my stock car I had a switch I could turn my alt on so I wouldn't lose HP racing but on cuation laps I would have it charging the battery....

when turned up my stereo it used to kill the battery with the engine running... and I just got a new battery from interstate battery and had no more problems... and because I work at an automotive shop I got interstate battery to deliver it and i just had to pay the wholesale price of $79... normal price of it is $125+

I'd look for a problem in the charging system. I've got a 12k winch on the front of my X, and it works fine with the standard system....

I just used an isolator from Pep Boys and rearranged the engine compartment. Cost about 50 for the isolator(140 amp) and the rest I gathered from the junkyard. I found a motor home with about 15 feet of monster power cable about the size of your index finger for 99 cents. I turned my washer tank sideways and just bent a piece of flat bar in a twisted L shape. I also got a battery try from Auto Zone and made some metal legs for it to sit in the fron on the drivers side and relocated a filter looking gizmo on the front clip. I also cut into the flat metal on the radiator mount and bent it over with a hammer to accomodate the battery. I can e-mail some pics if you like. They are not detailed but you get the idea.

Oh yea I forgot to mention that I got a 135 amp alt from the junkyard for 15 bucks.

x2 but i have bogged mine down once but the winch was under water at the time so i thought it was ok

quess i'll should look into the charging system and sees if its up to bar or not
