Wind rushing noise when driver window closed, '00 XLT

Hey everyone.

My first day behind the wheel of my new (to me) '00 XLT. Everything is pretty good so far, except for the fact that with the window rolled up, I have this incredible wind rushing noise in my ear. Its as if the window is still cracked a fraction, or the door is slightly ajar. It gets so annoying that its actually easier to drive with the window open so at least I know it is. Not a problem now since its still nice out, but once July or August rolls around and AC season starts, I have a feeling that this will drive me up the wall.

I've verified that the door isn't ajar, so the only thing I can figure is that the molding surrounding the power window channels is coming away from the door frame. I've poked around the molding, and it does look like it is loose in the very upper left corner (upper rear corner, when door is closed). Is this a common problem, or can anyone recommend where I should go from here to further diagnose this problem?

If this has come up before, please forgive my reposting this. I did a few searches and didn't find anything that resembled my problem, but I may have missed something.

I'm pretty confident that the noise is coming from the driver's window, but I'll doublecheck on the way to work tomorrow.

I suggest that you doublecheck the weatherstripping in the DOOR FRAME. The felt weatherstrip used around the window seems to last quite a while in Explorers, BUT the rubber weatherstripping in the doorframe deteriorates with time or even pulls away from the frame

Put a garden hose to the window area with low pressure.... you should find the "leak" then.

Well, I verified that it isn't the rear window. I didn't check the weatherstripping yet -- I'll give that a look at lunch.

I'm headed to a buddy's house tonight so I'll try the hose thing. I'd love to isolate this ASAP.

yeah i got the same problem it drives me crazy. i just turn up the radio usually but like you said its nice enough outside to keep the window down. i hope we find the problem.

I also have the same problem, but I am led to belive it's the IAC causing this???

Ah nuts, I forgot to check to see if it was my door weatherstripping. In all the hassle of having it detailed and cleaned I must have missed it.

Plus the detailers broke the plastic headliner molding above the driver door -- good thing is that they replace it no cost to me. If they want to have a go at breaking my rear quarterpanel with a scratch, I'm all for it too

Think I Fixed the Wind Noise!

I think I fixed the wind rushing noise on my 97 Eddie Bauer X..

I pulled the trim moulding that is over the driver window, down to the dash and then took some plumbers putty and rolled it into a ball. Then I rolled it into a worm shape and stuffed into the crevice where the windshield meets the dashboard and up the window post a ways.

The noise is about 95 percent gone now.... I can live with that!
