'99 mounty. Passenger side window goes down very slowly. Up doesn't seem to be a problem. Is there something that I can grease at the motor or linkage level, or maybe a loose wire, or am I just waiting for motor replacement when total failure happens?

The problem is that, with age and wear, the window regulator gets sloppy and the window channel doesn't slide as well as it used to. Try getting yourself some Liquid Wrench silicon spray (Lowes or Walmart sell it as well as many auto parts stores). Roll the window down all the way and, using the supplied red straw, spray the silicon down into the front and rear channels (especially the rear channel, starting at the top). Do this twice. The silicon provides a good long-lasting lubricant and the window should go down easily afterwards. This problem usually effects the driver's side window first as it tends to see more use.

If that doesn't work, take off the inner door panel and position the window such that you can see the regulator (the scissor like mechanism to raise and lower the glass) where it pivots on itself. Lube up those pins really well. Run the window up and down a few time to work it in. Spray it some more.

Worked for me.

For what it's worth, I had taken the interior door panel off and lubed the regulator slides and pivot point with little to no improvement. Then I tried WD40 in the glass channels, which yielded significant, but not long lasting, improvement.

Half my trucks have had this problem on the driver's window. Silicon spray has worked great for me. I like the Liquid Wrench brand because it foams when you apply it. It's hard to say how long it will last, but I'm going on 4 months with no sign of slowed down movement or jamming. Besides, it's a heck of a lot easier and quicker to spray the channels, rather than taking the door apart. Try it. I don't think you'll be disappointed with the result.
